Why Attend a Caregivers Support Group?
Caring for someone with Alzheimer’s disease impacts every aspect of your daily life. As Alzheimer’s patients lose one ability after another, a caregiver faces tests of stamina, problem solving and resiliency. Maintaining your emotional and physical fitness is crucial. Preparing yourself, understanding your loved one’s experience, and seeking support from others can be a big help.
When caregiving is difficult and overwhelming, you may feel totally alone. However, you’ll find there are many others in your area who are also providing care to someone with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia. It can help to reach out to others who understand the challenges you’re facing.
Maintaining social contacts, family connections, professional networks, and peer support is an important safeguard for your wellness and happiness. Sharing tasks, solving problems, and savoring the humor along your caretaking journey will let you return to a life filled with good health and cherished memories.

“I am sending this e-mail to tell you how much I appreciate the support group held at Dodge Park every month. Elaine is an excellent facilitator who makes everyone feel welcome and comfortable. Those who attend benefit by sharing concerns and information. In my opinion, we all leave feeling better than we had when we arrived. We feel equipped to face the challenges of the days to come.
I thank you for providing this very valuable service to the public. I am truly grateful.
